Trip to Kan-Irag, Cebu

And I bet a hundred that half the population of Cebu does NOT know where that is!
Hehe, I'm cheap, almost quite broke, but wouldn't pass to make that bet. Just in case there will be some statistics, I'll settle with a hundred. Hehe ;D

The wonders of Cebu that wonders me. This is my happy trip to Kan-irag.

Actually, Gayle wanted to fly a kite and eat some sweet corn. And I was thinking of Balamban, and Gayle heard of the place. Plotted the date, rescheduled it, and tadaaa.

Soooooo....
With the power vested in me, I declare this as Gayle's post-birthday trip :D

TRIP DETAILS

What:
Nature Park
Up the mountains
Secret Escape

Where:
5 minutes, 60 kph drive from the foot of Tops
I'm not sure if it's situated in Balamban or Busay, but it's adjacent (ish) to Ayala Heights Cebu.
From the city (that's JY Square, Lahug) it's approximately 30 minutes away or less. Depends on the transportation and well, the speed ;D
Route: (1) Short easy way - From Busay, (2) Long far far away - From Balamban

What to Expect:
Mountains and Trees
Picturesque view
Landscaped park
Man-made pond
Sketched Trail
Sweet Air - but may not be windy enough to fly kite, or maybe it was just our poor luck
Cheap veggies and sweet sweet corn :D

Things to bring:

1. lots of water
2. lots of food
3. lots of fun friends
4. Kite - when you plan to go kite flying of course
5. Cap would really help (especially when you get lost, and have to walk about a mile back)

How to get there:
Cheap easy travel: (1) Jeepney ride up - 04H, Stop up to where it can take you; (2) Motorcycle ride up the rest of the way - most commonly known as Habalhabal
Other means: Private car (which we obviously don't own... yet! Ha :D)

Cheap easy travel: (1) Motorcycle ride down - Habalhabal
Other means: Private car used when going up, har :D

Tips, tips and tips:

- Don't listen to the driver when they point out a vast mountain saying it's the place.
- Unless you want some adventure, stop at the Kan-Irag signage. You can't miss the place.
- Don't let them fool you when they say that going up would cost more if you ask them to pick you back, rriiggghhtt.
- If you do end up at the wrong place, best way is definitely not the short-cut someone or everyone is referring to ;D
- And again, if you do end up at the wrong place, what better way to deal with it than enjoy it

How much did it cost:
Food, watermelon and drinks - 500 / 4 = P125
Jeepney ride up = P 8
Habalhabal ride up - 100 / 2 = P 50
Kan-
Irag Entrance Fee (Free use of cottages adn the rest of the place)= P 50
Habalhabal ride down- 100 / 2 = P 50
Na-slide si prinsesa= Priceless! Hehehe.
TOTAL = p283

***
Sweet-corn 3 kilos = P100
***Watermelon 1 kilo = P25
***Lettuce 1 kilo = P50

Fun Facts with Google:

  • Home to 27 native bird species.
  • Park's area size is 71 hectares. [ I don't know exactly how large that is, but I'd say that is very large. kapeesh ;D ]
  • It's a watershed and protected area in the uplands (of Cebu)
  • It used to be a bald mountain, but thank god for reforestation, and caring people. [So this answers Gayle wondering if the trees that were transplanted -
    they seemed ruler-aligned ;D]
  • University of San Carlos - Botany group helped restore the place, with Ayala Land, Inc.
  • It's a three-year project (Although, I'm not sure which part of the three years time-clock it currently is now.)

I really like the place. This was closed last 2010 for renovation. I hope this is open again for public this year.
